Self-Publishing a "Rewarding" Experience for Joye

Self-publishing has been a rewarding experience for Carren W. Joye – in more ways than one. She placed First Runner Up in the home category of the 2006 Writers Notes Book Awards with her second book, Homeschooling More Than One Child: A Practical Guide for Families, self-published through iUniverse. This is the second award for Joye's book. It also won first place in the reference category of the 13th Annual Writer's Digest International Self-Published Book Awards in October 2005.

“I highly recommend self-publishing for the new author, especially with a print-on-demand company,” says Joye, who shopped around for publishers for her first book, A Stay-at-Home Mom's Complete Guide to Playgroups, before self-publishing through iUniverse in 2000. The positive results led her to pursue the self-publishing route again for Homeschooling More Than One Child in March 2005.

“With a company like iUniverse, I don't have a minimum number of books to print, I don't have to store thousands of books, and I don't have to take or ship orders. Best of all, my books never go out of print,” she explains. Her valuable time is devoted instead to homeschooling her four children, running a homeschool covering, volunteering with the local homeschool support group and her church, and writing articles about homeschooling.

For Joye, Homeschooling More Than One Child is the culmination of more than a dozen years of homeschooling her own four children and more than three years of research on homeschooling multiple children. Homeschooling More Than One Child focuses on the special challenges of homeschooling two or more children for parents just starting to homeschool and veterans desiring fresh ideas. The reference includes practical information, quick tips and long-term strategies. A writer of numerous articles for magazines and web sites, Joye has also authored an Alabama state history curriculum.

Homeschooling More Than One Child endured rigorous judging and surpassed dozens of titles within the home category of the 2006 Writers Notes Book Awards. It is featured in the April issue of Writers Notes Magazine and on the web site at www.WritersNotes.com.
